Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

This program emphasizes long-term development of 16-21 year olds who are deficient in basic skills, a school dropout, disabled, foster/emancipated, pregnant/parenting, ex-offender, homeless, run-away or have other barriers to employment. Through a network of regional providers, the WIA Youth Program focuses on academic skills improvement; alternative education services; summer employment opportunities; career exploration and preparation; comprehensive guidance counseling; paid/unpaid work experience; occupational skills training; leadership skills development and opportunities; supportive services such as assistance with transportation, child care, school supplies, etc.; follow up services. Youth Employment Opportunities Program (YEOP)

 

The Employment Development Department provides a youth program for ages 15 through 21 at risk of not achieving their educational goals, such as potential dropouts or high school dropouts.
